Correct fitting of Coats
It is imperative to have the correct size of coat.
Always have more than 1 size available for the mob- there will inevitably be smaller & larger than average sheep within any 1 mob.
Do not try & put too large a coat on your sheep - especially if coating off-the-board.

Three Options Available
1. Put a smaller coat onto the sheep to start, & then may have to change at 9 months.
2. Some prefer to use green rings, cable ties etc to really get a tight fit & then gradually let them out over the wool growing period. These sheep need to be carefully monitored over the first 2-3 weeks. Some may get front leg caught up in neck piece. Using a smaller well-fitting coat prevents this.
3. Use a small, short-necked coat, off the board & change to a long neck at 3-4 months wool.

Ensure brisket is pulled well down as far as possible toward front legs., before tightening coat above shoulder blades.
It is preferable and suggested to coat sheep in raised, single-file races. You need to be able to see each individual sheep has its’ coat to sit & fit well. Coating in a drenching race where 2, or 3 sheep are side-by-side, can lead to necks being pulled down and coats slipping sidewards. | | | |
